Hello family, here are some notes from our last B.B.B Study.
1 Peter 5:2 KJV Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
1 Peter 5:2 is clear that your pastor is the shepherd of the flock, but not the owner.
1 Peter 5:2 Feed the flock.....Well what does this mean?
John 21:15-17NIV vs. 15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.
John 21:15-17 is a beautiful passage with a great deal of messages, however were going to only focus on three quotes from Jesus.
“Feed My lambs”, “Tend My sheep” and “Feed My sheep.
Jesus was not referring to feeding and tending actual sheep but he was referring to feeding and tending spiritual sheep like you and me.
Think about it, if Jesus was referring to actual sheep, then the story of Peter probably would have ended right here. But we know that Peter went on to be great in ministry.
Often this scripture is use to justified the church physically feeding people or the church having some other social program.
TO BE CLEAR THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CHURCH HELPING THE COMMUNITY.
But we must understand that church social programs are not the purpose of the church. There great to have, but not the purpose of the church and not the meaning of John 21:15-17.
The purpose of the church is to feed the spiritual sheep the Word of God. Everything else that the church do is icing on the cake.
Unfortunately people have come to believe that social programs is the purpose of the church and not the feeding of the Word.
Well I pray that you enjoy these brief notes from our B.B.B Study. Please remember to joined us next Saturday at 12:00pm as we expand on our study.
God Bless Your Family,
