5 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
We are told not to love this world. You are probably wondering, "well God told us to love everybody." We are commanded to love everyone, whether they are saved or unsaved. This scripture is telling us to not love the world system. We are not love the way our society or our culture is going. The world chases after things that may bring them satisfaction. The world chases after things because they are trying to fill a void or a hole in their heart that only God can fill. We as children of God, we are to love God more than anything than what the world can offer us. You have to remember that Satan is the god of this world system. We have to be led by the Holy Spirit about every decision we make. Don't chase after the material things of this world, chase after God.
